2025 Mayfest Summary (2025/05/19)

The Metroplex Hungarian Cultural Circle (MMCC)’s 2025 Mayfest Summary

2025 Mayfest Summary

On May 3 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, we celebrated the traditional Hungarian May Day with lots of fun. What a weekend it was! On Friday it was pouring rain, but by Saturday all cleared up and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with about 160 and friends and family.

The highlight of the May Day was the cooking of goulash over an open fire in the ‘bograch’.

Instead of frying Lángos, this year the volunteers made two types of crepes (with cottage cheese or jam/Nutella fillings). Those also were a great success. In addition, one could also buy the delicious Hungarian dessert, called Krémes - everyone enjoyed those, too.

There was eating, drinking, wine tasting, a Maypole, a bounce house, a musical program with accordion music, Pilates exercises, and dancing to current tunes.

The fun lasted for hours. With the dance music, even cleanup/packing up went faster as we closed the day.

I cannot help, but mentioning that among the 30+ volunteers, it was my pleasure to see several young boys and girls, who were busy working with us, especially at the food serving lines. It is almost unbelievable that the volunteers’ age ranged from 8 to 80+!

Congratulations and thanks to all of them! We hope to see them at the future events, too.

In November 2024 the Hungarian Diaspora Council in its closing statement declared 2025 the Year of the Future Generation, and to my great pleasure, I saw the future generation in action on this May Day!

As all MMCC events, our goal is to create an opportunity for "veteran" Hungarians in Texas and the newcomers to meet and get to know each other. To tell or listen to each other's experiences, thereby preserving our mother tongue, nurturing our traditions, and strengthening the spirit of togetherness among the DFW Hungarians. We also create and strengthen close friendships with American friends.

No need to comment the pictures! Everyone was smiling, people were obviously enjoying this traditional Hungarian May Day, and they left with nice and lasting memories.
