Debrecen Folk Ensemble Review (2022/05/29)
The famous Debrecen Folk Ensemble tour Texas for the first time and charm a DFW audience

On May 26, after a long flight from Hungary and a 3-hour drive, a 10-member ensemble of folk dancers arrived in Dallas/Fort Worth. Even after getting here late, the next morning the group awoke fresh and ready to begin their tour and to perform for Texas audiences.
During their 10-day tour, the group performed in DFW, Houston and Austin with the DFW program being organized by the MMCC. The Fort Worth Sister Cities International also joined in hosting. With the additional assistance, it made it possible for the visitors to dance in front of as many people as possible in the two cities. A number of volunteers from both organizations provided the visiting Hungarians with accommodations, food, and transportation to various tourist locations in the Metroplex.
In Fort Worth, they danced outdoors in Burnett Park for at least 60 guests assembled in the shade. At the end of the performance, the enthusiastic audience joined the dancers in celebration and the downtown streets were filled with the lively Hungarian music. The next evening, the ensemble entertained a record number of guests, nearly 200, at the Plaza Arts Center in Carrollton during a two-hour show – presenting folk dances from different regions of Hungary. The audience weren’t all locals, either. Many guests travelled from Austin, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Lubbock to enjoy this rare occasion. At the end of the show, the dancers engaged the audience, and for at least 45 minutes and everyone danced – children, the elderly, pregnant women, priests, even the venues’ owner was on his feet dancing with laughter and joy.
We would like to thank our Hungarian sponsors and the Consulate General of Los Angeles for their contribution and efforts in bringing such a high-quality group of performers to the “wild, wild west” of Texas where Hungarian performing artists rarely visit.
The pictures and videos will illustrate not only of the great presentations, but also of the uplifting atmosphere!
