2021 Mayfest Report (2021/05/23)

This year's Mayfest was quite different from the ones held in the past years. Because of the COVID-19 virus, we were not allowed to cook the Gulyas at the event or bring potluck food. Instead, we had to hire a restaurant to cater the food. We turned to Brigitta's Hungarian Kitchen in Kilgore TX.  They were super nice! They not only cooked delicious meals, brought it in, served it, but they closed their restaurant in Kilgore in order to be at our event! What a service!

Just in time for our event, the COVID-19 restrictions were relaxed. Our special gulyas cook friend, Joe Czabajszki, managed to cook one pot of gulyás to the delight of about 50 persons. In addition, our Langos team was also able to continue the tradition of frying and serving fresh Langos!

Judging by the many beautiful pictures posted on Facebook, we think that despite the not so perfect weather, a lot of people had a great time, could enjoy the fruits of almost 30 volunteer’s dedicated work who helped make this event memorable.

Kudos to all – especially the teenagers who, for the first time, worked shoulder to shoulder with the ‘old-timers’.
