The Commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution 1956 in Dallas (2020/10/25)

The commemoration began with the Sunday afternoon Hungarian mass in the Cistercian Abbey. At the conclusion of the service, a few 56-ers and their friends gathered around the Kopjafa monument in front of the church.

In the light but steady rain, all in attendance listened patiently to Eva Beluska’s commemorative speech. After the speech, two of the 56-ers, Jenő Lukácsy and Csaba Finta laid a wreath, as a symbol of respect to the freedom fighters.

Fr. Julius Leloczky said a small blessing and reminded the listeners of Hungary’s ongoing fight for independence and quest to maintain its national identity. He asked God to help and bless the Hungarians. The commemoration ended with the singing of the Hungarian national anthem.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there was no organized dinner afterwards. In lieu of a formal social gathering, some of the people who attended the commemoration went to Lamberti’s restaurant. There, in dry and friendly atmosphere, they continued to share their memories about 1956.

A great big thanks to all who came to express their respect to the fallen and living heroes of the Hungarian revolution, and we are hopeful, that in 2021 we’ll be able to celebrate the 65th anniversary without restrictions.
